The wedding that broke my blogging silence

I can't even handle this.

These photos are
to.
die.
for.

Liz has been a dear friend of mine since 3rd grade, and it absolutely breaks my heart that I couldn't see this in person--blast you, LA! But this girl has always been a total knockout, and seeing her as a stunning bride absolutely took my breath away. Not to mention her handsome man, gorgeous bridesmaids, incredible decor details, and the love gushing from their eyeballs. But enough yabber--look for yourself!

And good gravy, if you are getting married in Oregon, book Erich McVey as your photographer already!

A few faves (as if I could choose...)

Can this wedding be topped? Doubtful.

I love this!

5.25.2010

No time to say hello, goodbye! I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

Not really late. But life is busy, so this will be short.

But this is just nothing short of adorable.

I love feet pictures. I love leopard print (just about) anything. I love weddings.

My day has been made :]

today's headline

Okay, so maybe I put this on off for awhile. I can't believe this has been sitting on my coffee table for over a month already.. Oops!

But this news is too exciting not to share!!

Urban Outfitters to start a wedding brand

Aiming to maintain the growth that led to record 2009 sales and profit, Urban Outfitters Inc. today disclosed plans to start another retail brand next year, this one aimed at the $60 billion wedding industry.
The Philadelphia specialty retailer, whose Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie stores target an upscale clientele, said it planned to launch the as-yet-unnamed bridal business by Valentine's Day 2011, first online and later with a store opening.
"We think this is going to be a meaningful business," Glen T. Senk, chief executive officer, told analysts today while reviewing the company's 2009 earnings, which included record sales of $1.9 billion and record profit of $220 million.
"Anybody we talk to about this goes, 'Wow, that's exciting,' " he said.
The idea for creating a brand aimed at weddings - featuring heirloom gowns, accessories, intimate apparel, decor, and gifts - grew out of the company's existing business, which often catered to brides and their entourages, Senk said.
According to the company's research, matrimony means money: The average wedding costs $45,000 to stage, and the bride alone spends $4,500 on clothing and accessories.
Bridalwear is a niche that suffered badly last year in the economic downturn; many high-end boutiques closed.
But for Urban Outfitters, the new line could represent a happy marriage with its long-term strategy to expand sales and profit by nurturing six to eight "meaningful" brands - while not allowing one brand to grow so large that it loses value. Along with Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie, the company operates Free People stores, a Terrain garden center in Glen Mills, and the Leifsdottir wholesale line.
Though the retail industry generally reported strong earnings this year, reflecting a rebound from its 2008 crash, Urban's earnings exceeded analysts' expectations.
Holly Guthrie, an analyst with Boenning & Scattergood Inc., said Urban Outfitters was able to adjust its offerings quickly to the new market conditions.
"They're fast," she said. "They figured it all out."
Sales of $1.9 billion for the year ended Jan. 31 represented a 6 percent increase over 2008. Fourth-quarter sales were up 16 percent, to $589 million. Net income for 2009 rose 10 percent, to $220 million. Quarterly profit of $77.7 million was up 92 percent over the same quarter in 2008.
Despite the snow, Senk said, February sales were also up, indicating that the market for high-end merchandise has been growing.
The company's Internet sales increased from $272 million in 2008 to $324 million last year, 17.7 percent of sales compared with 14.9 percent in 2008, Senk said.
Online sales could amount to more than 30 percent of the company's future business, he said. Urban Outfitters is installing new data-mining software to allow it to target its e-mail-marketing campaigns and to capitalize on its customer base in social networks such as Facebook.
"I don't want to limit how much of our business e-commerce can be," he said.
The company is expanding its European presence and is laying the groundwork to move into the Far East in 2012 or 2013. Senk said he envisioned international sales eventually amounting to 25 percent to 35 percent of the company's business.
Urban Outfitters' stock closed at $34.34 a share today, up 94 cents, or 2.81 percent.

not for my man, but maybe for yours?

My brother, of all people, sent me the link to this men's wedding band.

He is not into wedding planning, nor does he have immediate plans for having a wedding soon... but his friend sent it to him, and this is the one wedding detail that he will be putting his foot down about. That is hilarious to me, but besides the point :]

My husband obviously already has his ring (which is awesome, by the way), and this one really doesn't fit his personality anyway. But I have a feeling that this may float a lot of men's boats out there.

Does your man like tinkering with cars? Does he like taking things apart? Does he fix things?

He will most likely think this gear ring by Kinekt Design is pretty cool. I'd say it's pretty dang cool, as well.
{ Kinekt Design }
I love the uniqueness, and the design is pretty much flat out rad. Plus, it's made of stainless steel (which your manly man will love).

Check out the video for the full effect.

{For some reason, the video is slightly off-center in the frame. If you are annoyed by this, watch the link on YouTube. My tech-savvy skills aren't enough to figure this one out. Apologies.}

Did you watch it? Yeah. I know, right?

Oh, and did I mention the price tag? It's a jaw dropping $165. And it gets better still... free shipping worldwide AND a lifetime warranty. WHAT?!

Hurry up and buy this thing before Kinekt realizes that they are being robbed.

Love it :]

second (and third and fourth) weddings... to the same dude

I just loved this post I read on Keely's blog, asleep to dream. It's called How to Plan a Wedding in One Week. It's a little lengthy, and somewhat of a thank you note in itself, so there is a lot of name dropping--but there are some cute, romantic moments that I am a sucker for. Keely had a wedding in Mexico in 2006, but her and her husband skipped all the paperwork, so it wasn't technically legal. This past Christmas, they had a little second wedding to celebrate the legal union part!

I originally found this via Elizabeth Dye's blog. She made Keely's original wedding dress for their Mexican ceremony in 2006.

{ gown by Elizabeth Dye in wedding #1 }

{ super amazing vintage shift dress for wedding #2 -- to the same guy }

*romantic sigh*

I love weddings. In case you didn't know that yet (umm... where have you been?!).

When my husband hits the big time and we're rich and famous, I want to be like Heidi and Seal, and have a new wedding for every anniversary. They were originally married in Mexico as well, and have been renewing thier vows on every anniversary since (3 times).

This was their latest (4th) wedding, in LA, due to Swine Flu scares, with a White Trash theme.

{ photos via Pop Sugar }

How amazing is that?! Oh yeah, Heidi is definitely pregnant there, too. Classic.

I think my husband would totally be down with a White Trash Wedding, but I think I would want a couple more pretty ones first. :]

First I think I'd go for a 50s vibe... Something like this.

Then something totally whimsical [in a Victoria magazine kind of way, NOT in a Renaissance fairy kind of way] Something like this...

{ custom wedding gown by Leanne M. }

With this pee-my-pants amazing dress, I would top it off with some crazy whimsical headpiece like this:

{ headpiece by twigs & honey; gown by Elizabeth Dye }

My mom remembers me telling her when I was a little girl that I wanted to have lots of weddings--all to the same person.

So yeah, I am that girl.

And it's been since birth.

wedding budget/fundraising tip?

Check this out, via Offbeat Bride.

That is $20,000 for those of you who can't do quick math (Who am I kidding? I used a calculator.)

Hop on over to Offbeat Bride for the whole shebang, but basically they are doing this over 7 months time, aim to get married this summer, and are in it for the positive environmental impact--besides the cash.

Sounds like a pretty lofty goal to me, but it sounds pretty dang awesome. I am anxious to see how quickly they will succeed. I am sure they will, the only thing I am skeptical of is their timeline--they will need to move their wedding date, change their budget, or keep saving cans after their wedding to pay off their credit cards. That is just my realist (perhaps skeptic?) prediction.

Don't get me wrong though, this is such an incredible goal. I am totally on Team Spokane!!

{ photo via Offbeat Bride }

Any readers in the Spokane area, send your cans to these lovesick puppies!

I will keep you updated on the end result. We will see if they prove me wrong! :]

What do you guys think of this?

designer of the month :: twigs & honey by Myra Callan

Who :: twigs & honey by Myra Callan

From :: Salem, Oregon

Why I love :: Like I mentioned in my August designer of the month, I am keeping it local while I am still an Oregonian!

I discovered twigs & honey about a year ago and was immediately twitterpated. When I soon found out that Myra is from SALEM of all places, I about fell off of my chair. She is pretty much my Etsy idol. I want to be her. The fact that she is creating such fabulous pieces, and doing so well out of Salem, totally inspires me. Not to mention that she was a Geography and Environmental Science major! ...I know, right?

Myra uses fabulous and unique materials that create amazing palletes of color and texture. Details, details, details. I especially can't get enough of her birdcage veils.

Favorite piece(s) of the moment :: I couldn't choose just one! So I broke my own rule... When I make the rules, I am allowed to fudge a little.

I told my husband that as soon as he hits the bigtime in Hollywood, I am wearing a hairpiece from twigs & honey to the red carpet event, dangit!

mr. & mrs. montgomery

Here are some detail photos from my friend Cristine's wedding (as mentioned in bold --which, might I add, was spot on --and seen in sewing adventures, continued...) on August 22nd.

Some of my favorite details were...

1. The bridesmaid bouquets are styled with button clusters, and monogram letters of all of the bridesmaid's first names.

2. Cristine's bouquet was decorated with vintage clip-on earrings she found in antique stores and estate sales (umm... can you say "brilliant?") They tied in beautifully with the (also vintage) costume jewelry that she wore.

3. Her veil. I am a sucker for the birdcage.

The photos I have been waiting for!

{ photo by Jared Birt as seen on his blog }

Seriously, how did I find such beautiful friends? View the rest of the pictures here. I will definitely post again about the details of this wedding. Absolutely amazing. But I was too excited to not throw in a little teaser, first :]

Did I mention that I was invited to nine weddings this summer? Sadly, I couldn't/can't attend all of them. I still enjoy drooling over the pictures though. I am already anxious for the pictures from last Sunday's nuptials (ben & julia).

This Saturday will be the wedding season finale. Cristine, I can't wait!

Dancing down the aisle

Have you seen this?

Watch it. It will make you happy.

My husband is going to be jealous that we didn't think of this first!

7.27.2009

because good things come in threes...

1. You have to take a look at this carnival-themed, detail saturated, real wedding posted today at Snippet & Ink.

2. I also discovered a fabulous new website this morning. It's an e-zine called Utterly Engaged. There are currently three issues available. Sign up so you can receive the next one (they're all free!).

3. I know that this is an old post from My Sweet Savannah, but I love this. I am getting so anxious to decorate our apartment walls, and my grandma gave us these fabulous plates from Anthropolgie for our wedding, which have yet to come out of their box--which is such a shame.{ Plates by Anthropologie. Photos via happy mundane blog }

Our plates of course all have "V" on them. And every letter has different details, so ours actually have a cute little bird on them in addition to the lovely branches.

sidenote: I recently saw these plates still in the store, but they are no longer available online. So they may have been or are in the process of being discontinued.

I want to do something like this with them. I'd like to mix in some pictures, perhaps other objects, and I think I need to stop at a thrift store and find some more coordinating china. [That thrifting inspiration is thanks to my wonderful friend Lauren. We went a week or two ago, and I think I want her help again! Read her blog here.]

We will see if I have time to work on this little project this week. I will post pictures if I do.

I have been so excited to do this trend board! This is for one of my dear friends, Cristine, who is becoming a Mrs. this August! Her wedding is obviously already planned, and she doesn't need a trend board to help her plan, but I wanted to do one anyway. We will see in a month if I really portrayed her vision :]

one lump, or two?

I am loving tea gowns for weddings. I didn't wear one, but one of my good friends told me after I bought my (long) wedding dress that she always pictured me as a short-dress-wearing-bride. I had never seriously considered wearing a shorter gown, but they have some gorgeous options out there. So if that is your thing, and that is your wedding-- absolutely be brave and do it.

This J. Crew gown is just plain cute. Perfect for a beach or backyard wedding, and totally re-wearable (If anyone really does that... uh, besides my mom. That's another story).

I am really not a fan of Brides magazine (Hi, I'd like to pay $6 for a stack of advertisements please?), but I LOVE their cover this month. So fresh. Those shoes (yum, yum Christian Louboutin). And that dress is fabulous. If I had gone short, I would have gone with this one... with those shoes.
